سنحاول فى هذه الوقفة مع الأدب الملحمى أن نعرف ماهية الملحمة, وماهية الأدب الملحمى, حيث نطل من خلالها على تعريف الملحمة لغة وإصطلاحاً, وعلى الخصائص الملحمية بصورة عامة, ثم نقف على الملاحم عبر التاريخ بصورة وجيزة معرجين على المنبع الأول للأدب الملحمى "الإلياذة" و "الأوديسا".
و سنحاول أن نتبع الخصائص الملحمية من خلال الملاحم التى ألفت عند الشعوب المختلفة لغاتها وطبيعتها باحثين عن العامل المشترك بين هذه الأعمال, إلى أن نصل فى النهاية إلى المصطلح العربى "ملحمة" فى العصر الحديث ونخلص إلى عمل الشاعر الجزائرى مفدى زكريا فى "إلياذة الجزائر".
وبعد أن نستعرض من الخصائص الملحمية لهذا العمل الأدبى ننتقى خاصية من خصائص العمل الملحمى فى إلياذة الجزائر, وهى "العنصر الدينى" لندرج الألفاظ الدينية فى الإلياذة ضمن هذا الحقل, ثم نتناول عنصر تأثر مفدى زكريا بإسلوب القرأن الكريم- وهو ما يندرج تحت المصطلح الحديث الموسوم بـ "التناص"- وإنعكاس ذلك على لغة الإلياذة.
