يسرد محمد سرور في المجلدات الثلاثة من مذكراته جانبًا من سيرته الشخصية، وتجربته في العمل الإسلامي، لكنه يجعل النصيب الأكبر منها لتاريخ الجماعات الإسلامية التي عاصرها وتاريخ المرحلة التي عاشها وأحوال البلاد الإسلامية ابتداءً من آخر أيام الدولة العثمانية وسلطانها عبد الحميد الثاني، والمؤامرات التي حيكت للإطاحة به وبالدولة العثمانية، مرورًا بتأسيس الجمهوريات العربية وانقلابات عساكرها وسيرتهم في الحكم وقضايا الأمة، والأحداث الكبرى التي عاصرها المؤلف موثقًا مذكراته بوثائق مهمة.
