مما هو معلوم أن الله سبحانه وتعالى قد شرع الزكاة، وأوجب في مال الأغنياء ما يسد حاجة الفقراء، واعتبر ذلك فرضا من فرائض الإسلام، وقد يكون مال المزكي عينا وقد يكون دينا، وقد جاءت هذه الدراسة لبيان أحكام زكاة المدين، هل تسقط أم تجب؟ وهل الوجوب على إطلاقه ؟ ولا شك في أهمية هذه الدراسة؛ فقد كثر السؤال عنها في عصرنا، نظرا لما نشاهده من تطور اقتصادي هائل ملحوظ، أو ما نلحظه من كوارث اقتصادية والتي تؤثر سلبا أو إيجابا على رؤوس الأموال.
وقد بسط المؤلف الحديث عن تعريف الزكاة وحكمها وحكمة مشروعيتها، كما فصل القول عن الدين وأقسامه، وأعقب ذلك بالكلام عن شروط المال الذي تجب فيه الزكاة، وحكم زكاة الدين فيمن عليه دين وله أموال باطنة أو ظاهرة، ثم ختمت الدراسة بالحديث عن شروط الدين المانع من الزكاة.
