لأنه من عشاق وهواة الشعر الشعبي الجنوبي، اختار الكاتب محمد بن زياد الزهراني الكتابة عن الشاعر الرمز "أحمد بن جيران" (ت ... 1354ه) . ولد الشاعر الكبير أحمد بن جمعان بن جبران في قريته "ربوع الصفح" ، إحدى قرى بالخزمر الزهرانية من بني يوس أحد فروع قبيلة زهران. ولد الشاعر في بيئة أقل ما يُقال عنها إنها منجم للأدب والثقافة والإبداع، وخاصة في الشعر الشعبي، والذي يعد الشاعر جبران رمزاً من رموز هذا اللون من الأدب حتى أطلق عليه إسم "زعيم الغزل" في بلاد زهران وغامد. تخصص الشاعر كما يورد مؤلف الكتاب في ما يسميه أهل "هذه البلاد" طرق الجبل" وهي تسمية على مسمى لأن الشدو به والمتعة ما تكون عادة في الزمن الماضي القديم إلا في الجبال والأودية، وعندما يصدح به الراعي أو الجمّال أو عابر السبيل حينما يلقي عصا الترحال قليلاً وبعد أن تجاوبه الأودية والشعاب فيبلغ الصدى مسامعه. هذا، وقد اشتمل شعر شاعرنا كما هو واضح في الكتاب على الحكمة والمثل، والقول المباشر وطغت على شعره أيضاً اللهجة المحلية وهي في غالبها لغة عربية فصيحة، وقد جمع المؤلف شتات شعره من كل حدب وصوب في هذا العمل وقد اختار كما يقول "بعض النصوص التي حصلت عليها من الحفاظ ومما ورد في الموروثات الشعبية لغامد وزهران للأستاذ علي صالح السلوك" مع الإهتمام بخصائص شعره ولونه الشعري الفريد. لنقرأ له هذه الأبيات:
"لا تعشق الداني وراعي الأشناب / واللي بين الناس كذاب / أعشق من على مدح وقاله / من صاح في البندر بدا له / واللاش ما سر البعيد ولا أمن أهله".
