دين كونتز (بالإنجليزية: Dean Koontz ) (ولد عام 1945) كاتب وروائي أمريكي، قال إنه كان يتعرض للضرب والإساءة من والده المدمن على الكحول، وفي عامه الأخير في جامعة شبينسبورغ في ولاية بنسلفانيا فاز بمسابقة الخيال برعاية مجلة الأطلسي الشهرية. بعد التخرج في عام 1967، عمل مدرسا للغة الإنجليزية في مدرسة مشانيسبورغ الثانوية في مشانيسبورغ، بنسلفانيا، وقد عرف برواياته التي تحمل صبغة تشويق غامضة. كذلك تمتزج في رواياته عناصر رعب وخيال علمي وغموض وسخرية. ظهرت عناوين بعض كتبه في قائمة النيويورك تايمز لأعلى الكتب مبيعا.

جاءت الرواية تحت عنوان "غرفة الهمس" وهي من تأليف الروائي الأميركي دين كونتز وترجمة مصطفى ناصر واسماعيل كاظم ومراجعة وتحرير مركز التعريب والبرمجة.
في سعيها المحموم لكشف المشروع الجهنمي الذي بدأت خيوطه تتكشف بعد زيارتها الميدانية لأسباسيا، وبعد أن رأت بأم عينيها أمبولات شينيك، انضم لوثر تيلمن إلى جين هوك إثر عملية التفجير الانتحارية التي أقدمت عليها مواطنة صالحة في مينيسوتا. من دون اتفاق مسبق تلاقى درباهما في أيرون فرنس، وهنا تمكنا من الاطلاع على عالم صادم، حيث يضحّي الأهل مسلوبو الإدارة بأطفالهم لصالح مشروع جهنمي، وهناك اكتشفت جين غرفة الهمس. منذ ذلك الحين أحاطت بها الشكوك؛ أهي داخل هذه الغرفة أم خارجها. ولكن السؤال الذي يطرح نفسه: كيف يعرف المرء أنه داخل غرفة الهمس؟
الجواب عندما يصبح الأب جلاد ابنه بدلاً من أن يكون حضنه الدافئ، ويصبح أكثر الساعين وراء إزهاق روحه، وعندما تظن أنك بلغت قمة هرم الشرّ، وتعرفت إلى الشرير الأكبر، لتكتشف أنك لا تزال تسير عند سفح الهرم، وعندما تشك بأمر الطبيب، أهو يضمد جرحك أم يعمقه بهدف قتلك؟
في هذه الرواية ستقرأ عن بطل يمكنك تدميره ولا يمكنك هزيمته، يمكنك قتله لأنه حيّ، بخلاف الآخرين الذين لا يمكنك قتلهم لأنهم في الأصل أمواتاً ولكنهم لا يعلمون!
