هذه قراءة تكشف جوانب من الشعر العربي الحديث من خلال بعض شعرائه وقضاياه، حاولت فيها أن تكون منصفة لبعض الشعراء الذين ظلمهم الواقع الأدبي بالتجاهل والصمت، أو التقليل من قيمة ما قدموه على مستوى الفن والصياغة، مع أن بعضهم زائد في مجاله، عملاق في أدائه، ولكن اختلال المعايير في الواقع الأدبي، قلب الموازين، وأعطى شهرة كبيرة لبعض من لا يستحقونها وحرم الإنصاف من هم أحق به.
وقد حاولت أن أقدم نماذج لشعراء من بلدان عربية شتى تبدأ من العراق على الخليج وتنتهي عند المغرب على المحيط، ليرى القارئ أن "الروح العربية" فى شتى الأقطار العربية، تكاد تكون واحدة، وتحمل هما مشتركا، وعاطفة مبثوثة في وجدان العرب جميعا.
كما عالجت هذه القراءة بعض القضايا التى مازال بعضها موضع أخذ ورد بسبب "إختلال المعايير" أو أنها تحتاج إلى مراجعة وتصويب، أو تقدم جديدا في ميدان دراسة الشعر، وطريقة فهمه.
ولا أزعم أن هذه القراءة مثالية، بقدر ما هي كاشفة، ومحرضة على اقتحام شعر أصحابها ودراسته بالعمق، والالتفات إلى أن في شعرنا الحديث كثيرا من الشعراء الذين تجب دراستهم وتناول أشعارهم وقراءتها بصورة أخرى.
