ولد الشاعر والمترجم نزار سرطاوي في فلسطين عام 1951. يحمل شهادة البكالوريوس في الأدب الانكليزي من الجامعة الأردنية في عمان، وشهادة الماجستير في تطوير الـموارد البشرية من جامعة منيسوتا في أميركا. وهو عضو في رابطة الكتاب الأردنيين والاتحاد العام للكتاب والأدباء العرب. شارك في عضوية العديد من لجان التحكيم في المسـابقات الشـعرية والترجمة. شارك في عدد من المهرجانات الدولية واللقاءات الشعرية والثقافية في الأردن، فلسطين، لبنان، مصر، المغرب، دبيّ، الشارقة، كوسوفو، والهند. ترجم لعدد كبير من شعراء الأردن وفلسطين وسائر الأقطار العربية إلى الإنكليزية.
يكتب سرطاوي باللغتين العربية والإنكليزية، صدرت له ثلاثة دواوين شعرية بالعربية والإنكليزية وأكثر من 25 كتاباً مترجماً من العربية إلى الإنكليزية ومن الإنكليزية إلى العربية، ونشرت له قصائد باللغتين في نحو 50 مجلداً شعرياً عربياً وعالمياً وعدد كبير من المجلات الشعرية والصحف الورقية والإلكترونية العربية والعالمية.
كتب مقدمات لعدد من الدواوين الشعرية باللغتين العربية والإنكليزية، وشارك في تقديم العديد من الشعراء والكتاب العرب والأجانب في الملتقيات والأمسيات والمهرجانات الشعرية. وترجمت أعماله إلى أكثر من اثنتي عشرة لغة منها الإنكليزية والفرنسية والألمانية والإيطالية والهندية والأوردية والدنماركية.
فاز عام 2012 بجائزة النور للإبداع، وفاز عام 2018 بجائزة ناجي نعمان للإبداع، وكرّمه ملتقى المثقفين المقدسي في عام 2019. كذلك أطلقت "مؤسسة الوطن العربي الإعلاميَّة بلندن" في مطلع عام 2022 جائزة للإبداع تحمل اسمه. كما أسمته مؤسسة ناجي نعمان الثقافية في لبنان سفيرًا لها.
