على الرغم من أن ما قدمته هذه الدراسات من تفسيرات مقنعة حول صور الشعر الجاهلي، وما استندت عليه من مبررات مقبولة للتداخل بين عناصر متباعدة في هذا الشعر، فإن نتائج هذه الدراسات، باتت في حاجة إلى درس لغوي دلالي يؤكد ما توصلت إليه هذه الجهود، وبخاصة إذا كان هناك تطابق بين هذه العلاقات الفنية في تلك الصور، والعلاقات الدلالية بين مفردات اللغة التي تملأ معاجمنا العربية دلالية وصرفية، وهذا ما ولد فكرة وضع بعض الصور على مائدة بحث دلالي، يختبر ما يمكن أن تقدمه اللغة لإسعاف تلك العلاقات الفنية حتى تثبت بنية تحتية للقصيدة الجاهلية، بل للشعر الجاهلي من خلال تشكل دلالات ألفاظ اللغة وتداخل حقولها الدلالية، فكانت فكرة البحث.
وهو عبارة عن أربعة فصول ، جاء الفصل الأول، إطاراً نظرياً للدراسة ناقش فيه الكاتب الظاهرة بين الرؤية النقدية والدراسة اللغوية، محاولا وضع تصور لها من خلال تناول البعد النقدي والدلالي في جهود النقاد وعلماء الدلالة. حيث قدم عرضاً سريعاً لأهم الدراسات النقدية التي ناقشت الظاهرة على المستوى الفني، وتناول لغة النص الشعري الجاهلي في ظل الميثولوجيا، ثم تعرض لجهود اللغويين حول ظاهرة التشكل الدلالي، والأصداء الثقافية القديمة في المعجم العربي، ومدى ما يمكن أن يقدمه علم الدلالة مع البلاغة العربية في خدمة النص الأدبي.
أما الفصل الثاني، فقد دارت إجراءاته حول عرض الصور الفنية التي ربطت بين الناقة وكل من السحابة والنخلة والمرأة، معتمداً معطيات التفسيرات الأسطورية في هذا الصدد. ورصد العلاقات الدلالية بين الألفاظ التي تدور بين الناقة والعناصر الفنية سالفة الذكر، مما كشف عن محور دلالي من المفردات اللغوية كان بمثابة تأكيد للعلاقة الفنية بين صور كل من (الناقة والسحابة والنخلة والمرأة)، وجاء الفصل الأخير، ليعرض –بشكل أفقي- الصور الفنية للمحاور المعنية بالدراسة، بجوار الحشد الدلالي لمواد اللغة التي دارت بين صور هذه المحاور بآلية (مكوكية).
