استلهمت مباحث كتاب "ابن الأمير والرسالة النجدية" من عمل سابق أطلقت عليه مسمى "الشوكانية الوهابية تيار مستجد في الفكر العربي الحديث"، في وقت كنت فيه منهمكاً بإعداد اللمسات الأخيرة لعمل لاحق "فقه الفقيه وفقه السلطة: الإمام الشوكاني والدولة القاسمية"، حيث اكتملت الصورة لدينا لحياة خمسة فقهاء جهابذة أدلوا بدلهم في مسألة الإمامة والسياسة علي نحو مثير للدهشة. فمن النصوص الفقهية المناهضة لمشروع الخلافة القاسمية تمخضت الأبواب الثلاثة لهذه الدراسة التي حاولنا من خلالها تقديم قراءة موضوعية لمضمون الرسالة النجدية التي تستعرض أبياتها نشاط الدعوة السلفية الوهابية كحركة دينية إصلاحية يرمي صاحبها إلي تنقية العقيدة الإسلامية من شوائب البدع التي علقت بها، تماشياً مع المشروع السعودي المناهض للحكم العثماني والنظام الجديد المقتبس من أوروبا الغربية الذي حاول الباب العالي تعميمه في سائر الولايات العربية الخاضعة لسيادته ونفوذه دونما جدوى.
وبتقديمنا نص الرسالة النجدية المنسوبة لمصلح اليمن السيد العلامة محمد بن إسماعيل الأمير الصنعاني، نكون قد اسدلنا الستار عن برامج الدعوة السلفية ومنطلقاتها النظرية التي لم تخل من بعض الشوائب والقصور في ممارساتها وتطبيقتها، إذا ما أخذنا بعين الإعتبار أن الدولة السعودية الأولي حرصت علي تصحيح مبادئ الدين الحنيف وتنقيته من الشوائب البدعية والانحرافات الإجتماعية، وهي تسعى جاهدة لتعميم مذهب الدولة الرسمي علي سائر الأقاليم المجاورة ولو استدعى الأمر منها في بعض المناسبات اللجوء إلي القوة والإكراه، فالتوهيب والسعودة، علي حد قول بعض المراقبين السياسيين، أضحيا بمرور الوقت وجهان لعملة واحدة.
