"يحاول المؤلف في هذا الكتاب الكشف عن الفكريّة، أو الجينات التي يقوم عليها نتاج المفكر والروائي الإيطالي أمبرتو إيكو، بجانبَيه النظري والإجرائي السردي، لما يشكله إيكو، المفكر الما بعد حداثي، من شخصية ثقافية تستحق العناية. وقد نحا المؤلف في سبيل ذلك طريقًا عكسيًا لحركة إيكو الفكرية التي تستند إلى مقولته الشهيرة: «ما لا يمكن تنظيره ينبغي سرده»، وعوض أن يبدأ بقراءة النظريّ من نتاجه، بدأ بقراءة السرديّ منه، وقد أعانه استباقه الجانب النظريّ بالجانب الإجرائي السردي على استيعاب تنظيره استيعابًا دقيقًا، ما كان ليتيسّر لو بدأ بالتنظير، خصوصًا أنّ الرواية الإيكويّة، ومن خلال سردها ما لا يمكن تنظيره، قد سهّلت عمليّة تفهّم ما هو نظريّ. هذا الكتاب هو سلسلة من المباحث التي كانت ولادتها وفق الترتيب الآتي: ""اسم الوردة بين السيمائيّة والتفكيكيّة""، ""جزيرة اليوم السابق واستدعاء القارئ الناقد المفكّر""، ""باودولينو ومناخ الأكاذيب والأوهام والخرافات""، ""مقبرة براغ وسوء الظنّ بالتاريخ"". وبعد استكمال قراءة الروايات الأربع، عكف المؤلف على قراءة بعض أهمّ كتبه النظريّة، فوقع اختياره على ثلاثة كتب تتبّعها وفق العناوين الآتية: ""الأثر المفتوح ونقد النقد""، ""التأويل بين السيميائيّات والتفكيكيّة عند إيكو""، ""آليات الكتابة السرديّة وما بعد الحداثة"". واحترامًا لمسيرة إيكو الفكريّة، قسّم المؤلف الكتاب الموجود إلى قسمَين: كان عنوان القسم الأوّل ""ما يمكن تنظيره""، أدرج فيه قراءاته الكتبَ النظريّة وفق تسلسلها القرائي بالنسبة إليه، أمّا عنوان القسم الثاني فكان ""ما ينبغي سرده""، مر فيه على الروايات الأربع التي قرأها. وقد اتبّع المؤلف فيما قام به من نقدٍ روائيّ في جانب، ومن نقد النقد في جانب آخر، منهجًا واحدًا هو المنهج الثقافي، الذي يستند إلى نظريّة الكشف التي تقول: إنّ أيّ جانب من جوانب العالم المرجعي: شيئًا كان، أم حدثًا، أم سلوكًا بشريًّا، هو متعدّد الأبعاد، إلى حدّ لا يمكن معه إحصاء تلك الأبعاد؛ وأدبيّة أيّ أديب، أو شعريّة أيّ شاعر، قائمة على ما استطاعت رؤيتُه النفاذَ إليه من بين تلك الأبعاد، وكشفته للمتلقّي باللغة. وإذا كانت الرؤية إلى العالم هي الفاعل الأساسيّ والحاكميّة المنتجة للأدبيّة، فإنّها بما تتشكّل منه: ثقافةً، وقناعاتٍ، وهمومًا، واهتمامات، هي بصمة فريدة تنتج كشفًا فريدًا بأسلوب فريد هو الأدبيّة عينها. "
