إن الحديث حول التعليم بشكل عام، ينصرف في نهاية المطاف الى الحديث حول (( المدرسة )) التي هي المؤسسة التعليمية الرسمية التي يناط بها تربية وتكوين النشئ قبل التحاقهم بالتعليم العالي والجامعي، ومن هنا اكتسبت المدرسة في الادبيات التربوية الحديثة والمعاصرة اهمية ومكانة كبيرة، وانصرف جل البحوث والدراسات التنظيرية والميدانية حول المدرسة ودورها وامكانياتها المادية والبشرية. حيث اولت البحوث والدراسات الاهتمام بالمعلم والرعاية بوصفه بانه الطاقة الكامنة المحركة للعملية التعليمية برمتها، كما انشغلت العديد من الدراسات والبحوث حول المباني المدرسية نفسها ومواصفاتها ومعايير بناءها وتشييدها والمساحة الخضراء بها والملاعب والمعامل ومعامل الوسائط التعليمية وادماج التكنولوجيا. كما انشغلت ايضا وبشكل رئيسي حول الادارة المدرسية ودورها وتنميتها المهنية وامكانياتها المعرفية والادارية، ومستوى الاداء الاداري لتلك الادارة المدرسية وما تتصف به من معايير للجودة الشاملة، والى جانب كل ذلك هناك دراسات وبحوث حول المتعلم ونواتج التعلم وظروف وملابسات العملية التعليمية داخل قاعات الدروس بالمدرسة، اذن تكمن اهمية هذا الكتاب في انها تضع الصورة الكاملة عن المدرسة من خلال ثقافتها وجملة التفاعلات الاجتماعية والثقافية التي تتم بداخلها، وربما تعد تلك المعالجة من اصعب المعالجات البحثية في قضايا التعليم والتعلم، وكيف نستطيع ان نرصد ونحلل ما يدور داخل المدرسة ليس بوصفه منعزلا عن السياق الخارجي المجتمعي، بل بوصفه امتدادا له وحاملا لكل صفاته الايجابية والسلبية، من هنا فان الامساك بتلابيب كل تلك العناصر الداخلة والمتفاعلة داخل المدرسة يعد امرا بالغ الصعوبة، ولكنه ليس مستحيلا، فهذا الكتاب هو محاولة جادة للوصول الى تلك الغاية ومحاولة كشف النقلب عما يدور داخل المدرسة .
