يهدف هذا الكتاب إلى التعريف بالمحيط الجغرافي الطبيعي والبشري للعالم الإسلامي، تعريف يستند إلى منهج المعرفة الجغرافية، ويقصد بالعالم الإسلامي مجموعة الدول التي تزيد فيها نسبة المسلمين على 50%، ويغطي العالم الإسلامي مساحة تقدر بـ35.500.000 كيلو متر مربع وهي تقارب ربع مساحة اليابسة البالغة حوالي 149 مليون كيلو متر مربع فهو يمتد من المحيط الأطلسي غربًا إلى المحيط الهادي شرقًا، ومن شمال كازاخستان عند دائرة عرض 55 درجة شمالًا إلى جزر القمر عند دائرة عرض 13 درجة جنوبًا، وتحيط به حدود برية تقدر بحوالي 168.760 كيلو متر.
ويتألف هذا الكتاب من سبعة فصول، يهتم بدراسة مفهوم العالم الإسلامي وحدوده وأهميته، ويتناول دراسة الجغرافيا الطبيعية للعالم الإسلامي ويركز على دراسة الجغرافيا البشرية للعالم الإسلامي، ويتناول دراسة الجغرافيا الاقتصادية، ويهتم بدراسة الجغرافيا السياسية للعالم الإسلامي، ويدرس مشكلات العالم الإسلامي، ويهتم بدراسة نماذج تطبيقية مثال الكويت، إيران، تونس.. وقد زود الكتاب بعدد من الأشكال والصور الفوتوغرافية لتساعد في تفهم الموضوع.
