تعد الجغرافيا السياسية واحداً من الموضوعات الشائكة في الدراسات الجغرافية، لأنها تمثل خط التماس مع صانع القرار السياسي والقائد العسكري في توجيه سياسة الدولة، وعلاقاتها الخارجية، وقد أصبح العالم قرية واحدة صغيرة، وبالتالي أصبح هذا التأثير والتأثر بين مكونات العالم يتطلب أن يكون لدى القادة- الذين يقودون عملية التأثير والتأثر- وعي بالجغرافيا السياسية. ومن هنا تأتي أهمية الجغرافيا السياسية في كونها استطاعت أن تفسر بدقة أغلب كليات وجزئيات حركة التاريخ. إبتداء من القرن العشرين قبل الميلاد وحتى القرن العشرين بعد الميلاد. وينقسم الكتاب إلى سبعة فصول، يتناول الفصل الأول دراسة الجغرافيا السياسية ومحتواها ومناهجها، ويركز الفصل الثاني على النظريات السياسية والجيوبولتيكة العالمية، ويهتم الفصل الثالث بدراسة مقومات الدولة الطبيعية والبشرية، أما الفصل الرابع فيلقي الضوء على الحدود السياسية، ويتناول الفصل الخامس الخريطة السياسية لقارة أفريقيا المعاصرة والصراعات السياسية، ويركز الفصل السادس على التوتر الدولي وعوامله الجغرافية، أما الفصل السابع فيدرس الجغرافيا السياسية للحربن وفي النهاية ندعو الله أن يساعدنا بما اكتسبناه من معرفة الماضي.
