في كتابه هذا يغوص الشيخ "مصطفى وهبي العاملي" في موضوع عقائدي متعلق بالولاية التكوينية ومقام الأنبياء عموماً ومقام الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم، والأئمة (رضي الله عنهم) خصوصاً سماها "عقيدة الأمر بين الأمرين التي حفظت فيها إرادة الله تعالى دون أن تسلب عن الإنسان أي إرادة وإختيار ومسؤولية"، فهل يمكن في بحث الولاية التكوينية الوصول إلى مثل هذه المصالحة، يجيب المؤلف بالقول أن "هذه الولاية التكوينية على إختلاف مراتبها لا تكون إلا بإذنه تعالى، ولا يمكن لمخلوق مهما علا شأنه أن يستقل عن الله تعالى في التصرف...
وفي الحقيقة فإنه لا يمكن أن يكون هناك إذن سابق يصير بموجبه المأذون قادراً على الإستقلال بالتصرف مستغنياً عن أي إذن لا حق ليصبح الأمر شبيهاً بما تجري عليه معاملاتنا الإعتبارية حيث يفوض شخص لآخر أن يتصرف ببيته مثلاً كما يشاء ثم يتركه وينصرف..؟".
ولأن البحث في موضوع الولاية التكوينية مليء بالتوترات، ودونه محاذير، حيث الخشية من أن يساء فهم الكلام فيما يتعلق بالله تعالى أم فيما يتعلق بالأنبياء والأئمة.
جاء هذا الكتابة بمثابة "دراسة موضوعية بين النفي والإثبات" حاول فيها المؤلف التأكد من صحة الأحاديث وتمحيص الروايات، مع النقد البناء الذي يفضي إلى الحقيقة المرجوة.
