هذا الكتاب عمل توثيقي يرصد رسائل الماجستير والدكتوراه المجازة من الجامعات المصرية على مدى نصف قرن 2010-1960 ويمثل هذا الكتاب الجزء الأول من الموسوعة والتي تحتوي على سبعة أجزاء تغطي الرسائل المجازة خلال الفترة المشار إليها . ويتناول الجزء الأول رسائل علم الأجتماع الريفي وعلم الاجتماع الحضري وعلم السكان والفروع الثلاث من أكتر الفروع ارتباطا بين فروع علم الأجتماع .
وهذا الكتاب يعرض بداية توثيق للدراسات المجازة في تلك الفروع الثلاثة , ثم يعرض الدراسات التي تمكن المؤلف من الوصول إليها وقد عرض لها ملخصا ركز فيه على الدراسة الميدانية التي تضمنتها الرسالة .
ويطمح المؤلف ان يتمكن من تأليف الطبعة الثانية لهذا الكتاب والذي سيكون دراسة نقدية تحليلية لما تم اجازته من دراسات في هذه الفروع الثلاثة من علم الإجتماع , وقد كانت البداية بعلم الأجتماع الريفي وهو الذي شهد أهتماما متميزا في المراحل المبكرة وبخاصة في ستينيات القرن الماضي ولم يضاهيه في الأهتمام غير علم الإجتماع الصناعي .
هناك كثير من الأسئلة التي يمثل هذا الرصد الاولى لتلك الدراسات المادة الميدانية لعمل نقدي تحليلي يتناول محاولة الاجابة على العديد من الأسئلة منها علاقة الدولة بالبحث العلمي في علم الأجتماع وكيف تنعكس سياسات الدولة على تحديد مستوى الاهتمام بموضوعات علم الأجتماع ومستوى الاهتمام في علم الإجتماع , ومدى تشكل مدارس علمية في علم الأجتماع بالجامعات المصرية ؟ ومدى التباين بين تلك المدارس وتوجهاتها , هذا إلى جانب مناقشة قضايا التوجوهات النظرية والمنهجية وتباينها من مرحلة تاريخية إلى مرحلة تاريخية اخرى , ومدى استفادة سياسات الدولة من جهود الباحثين في علم الأجتماع .
