تناول العمران الريفى موضوعات الدراسة المهمة، وناقش أشكال وأنواع العمران التى تعد نتاجا لتفاعل الإنسان مع البيئة الجغرافية التى يقطنها، كما عالج فى تفصيل واضح أنماط العمران المجمع، والعمران المشتت. واهتم هذا الجزء أيضا باستعراض لأنواع وأنماط العمران فى أقاليم العالم الرئيسية.
وفى الجزى الثانى من الكتاب، تناول كل ما يدخل فى دائرة جغرافية الحضر (المدن)، وناقش الجزور التاريخية للحضر، وموقع مصر بالنسبة للتطور الحضرى العالمى. وفى هذا الجزء، عالج المؤلف القسمين الرئيسيين لجغرافية الحضر وهما النظام الحضرى Urban System والتركيب الداخلى للمدينة Internal Structure، وعرض الكتاب لموضوعات مهمة مثل الهيراركية الحضرية، ونظرية المكانى المركزى، وإقليم المدينة، وتناول موضوعات مهمة كذلك عند تحليل التركيب الداخلى للمدينة فعرض للنظريات الكلاسيكية المعروفة، وأتبعها بالنظريات الخاصة التى تناسب مدنا بعينها فى أمريكا اللاتينية وآسيا وأفريقيا.
عرض الكتاب أيضا لمشكلات الحضر المادية وغير المادية واهتم الكتاب بموضوع استخدام التقنيات الحديث فى دراسة العمران. ألحق بالكتاب ثبت بالمصطلحات ، وبيبليوجرافيا ضافية تشتمل على معظم ما كتب فى الموضوع باللغة العربية وغير العربية، إضافة إلى عشرات الخرائط والأشكال التى توضح الدراسة.
