تُعتبر الحرف التقليدية أحد أهم الميكانيزمات الاجتماعية والشعبية لمواجهة الأزمات الاجتماعية والاقتصادية الطارئة والمستقرة، وتُعتبر أيضاً أحد أهم عوامل التمكين الاجتماعي لدعم إرهاصات المحاولات المحلية المتفرقة للتنمية التعاونية المعتمدة على الذات، وإذا كان الحرفيون قد حركوا الزمان، فإن الحرف التقليدية قد بدلت وطورت المكان، وعندما التقي الزمان والمكان، تفاعل الحرفيون مع الحرف؛ فجذبت الحرف التقليدية الحرفيين، فأبدعوا فيها وحافظوا عليها ، واستثمر الحرفيون الحرف التقليدية في محاولتهم للتكيف مع الفقر وصناعة رأس المال بعدما جار عليهم الزمان وكاد أن يلفظهم المكان خاصة في الريف، من خلال إفقار الفلاحين نتيجة عوامل كثيرة خارجية وداخلية. ولا يعني التكيف مع الفقر حالة من الرضا عن الفقر، بل حالة من السعي يقوم بها الحرفيون لتجنب آثاره المدمرة للإنسان والمكان.
