يتناول نظرية الاستجابة للمفردة وتطوراتها المعاصرة وما تتضمنه من نماذج مختلفة وكذلك بعض تطبيقاتها الأساسية المتنوعة فى القياس النفسى والتربوى . ويشتمل الكتاب على ثلاث أبواب رئيسة : يتناول البابان الأول والثانى مفاهيم ومبادئ نماذج الاستجابة للمفردة أحادية البعد سواء كانت ثنائية الدرجة أو تتطلب استجابات متدرجة مرتبة وكذلك نماذج الاستجابة للمفردة متعددة الأبعاد بأنواعها المختلفة . ويتناول الباب الثالث بعض أهم تطبيقات هذه النماذج فى مجالات إجراء تكافؤ الاختبارات أحادية البعد ومتعددة الأبعاد وتصميم وبناء أنظمة بنوك الأسئلة المحوسبة والاختبارات الموائمة المحوسبة . ويعالج الكتاب أساسيات هذه النماذج بأقل قدر من التعقيدات الرياضية والإحصائية بالاستعانة بالتمثيلات البيانية لكى يتمكن الدراس والباحث من استيعابها وتوظيفها بيسر وسهولة . وينتهى الكتاب بمعجم مختصر ( انجليزى – عربى ) لاهم مصطلحات نماذج الاستجابة للمفردة أحادية البعد ومتعددة الأبعاد .
