- تخرج في كلية الآداب، قسم الفلسفة، جامعة القاهرة عام ( 1959م ).
- عمل مدرسًا بوزارة التربية والتعليم من ( 1960 - 1962م ).
- حصل على دكتوراه الفلسفـة في التربيـة من كليـة التربيـة بجامعـة عيـن شمس عام ( 1969م ).
- اختير معيدًا بكلية التربية بجامعة عين شمس عام ( 1962م )، وتدرج بها إلى درجة أستاذ عام ( 1979م )، واستمر بها حتى الآن.
- دعي أستاذًا زائرًا بجامعات صنعاء، وأم القرى، والكويت، وعجمان، واليرموك، عدة فصول دراسية.
- دعي إلى مهمات علمية في الولايات المتحدة وبريطانيا عدة مرات، فترات مختلفة.

ثقافة البعد الواحد هي التي تصر على النظر إلى الأمور من زاوية واحدة. وهذا النمط من التفكير يعبر عن طفولة فكرية ويؤدي إلى نشأة أجيال لا ترى بالنسبة للرأي إلا بُعداً واحداً. غير ان ما يغذي الثقافة ويحفظ لها الحيوية والاستمرا والازدهار أن تتنوع العناصر المغذية لها. ومن ينظر إلى الأشياء من زوايا متعددة فإنه يعي حجمها وشكلها الطبيعي فيضع قدميه على طريق النمو والتقدم. والانفتاح على الآخر يرسي دعائم الفكر الناقد الذي يفتح الباب على مصراعيه أمام عقل الأمة كي ينطلق متحرراً من الجمود والتحجر. وحق الاختلاف يشكل للفكر مشروعية التلاقح اللازم لبدء الوجود.
ومن هذا المنطلق يؤكد الدكتور سعيد إسماعيل علي ما يؤمن به من أن النظرة التي تقوم على البعد الواحد نوع من التسطيح والنظر السهل للأمور، وهو يعرض في مقالات الكتاب التي نشرت على مدى سنوات في عدة صحف مصرية لبعض الهموم الثقافية التي أرقته. تناول فيها مواضيع عديدة تخص التكوين الثقافي للمواطن ومسؤولية معلم اللغة العربية والمسؤولية الثقافية للغة العربية. وحتى الاختلاف، وثقافة البعد الواحد، وصورة الإصلاح المعرفي.
