Book Description
ولد السيد تشارلز بلجريف في سويسرا عام 1894م وتلقى تعليمه العالي في كلية بدفورد ولتكن بجامعة أكسفورد. التحق بالجيش البريطاني في السودان وعمل بمصر وفلسطين (على مدى عامين) الأوروبي الوحيد في واحة سيوه بالصحراء الليبية، عام 1925م، وبعد سنين من العمل في مكتب المستعمرات بتنجانيقا، استجاب لإعلان نشرته حكومة البحرين في جريدة التايمز البريطانية، وبناءً عليه تقدم إلى وظيفة المستشار المالي.
وعلى مدى واحد وثلاثين عاماً (1929م حتى 1957) كان المستشار لأهم الشخصيات السياسية في البحرين وكان له أثر رئيسي في تطوير الأمور الإدارية والاقتصادية في هذه الجزيرة. غادر بلجريف البحرين في 18 أبريل 1957م وعاد إليها مرة أخرى (في زيارة خاصة) عام 1965م. وكانت وفاته في 28 فبراير 1969م في بريطانيا حيث أمضى هناك سنوات التقاعد.
عن هذه الشخصية تتحدث المؤلفة في هذا الكتاب وذلك من خلال استقراءها لما تجمع لديها من مدونات أو مذكرات وصور وأوراق ولوحات دونت تاريخ هذا الرجل الذي سمي مرة بالمستشار ومرات أخرى بالمستعمر. كما ودونت تاريخ الفترة التي عاش فيها بالخليج والتي كشفت عن خطوات التدخل الإنكليزي في الخليج والذي بد أمام 1820م وامتد إلى ما بعد رحيله عن الخليج.
