تعتبر الكاتبة هذه الثورة أهم حدثٍ عاشته في حياتها، وتقول في مقدّمة الكتاب: أظنّها كانت لحظات تاريخية استثنائية، غيّرت كثيراً من تصوّراتي وقناعاتي، ومنحتْني الكثير من السعادة والأمل والقدرة على اكتشاف نفسي والعالم. لعلَّ هذا الاكتشاف ما سيقودُ الكاتبة تتمسّك بكتابة ما كان سيُسرقُ منها، ومن شبابٍ حالم آمن بثورته في تحقيق الحرية والعدالة الاجتماعية، وهي قبل أن تمضي في توثيقٍ تتداخلُ أحداثه مع سيرتها الشخصية، وتنقل لنا صورة بانورامية لهذا الحدث العظيم الذي عاشته مصر بدايات ٢٠١١؛ تُهدي الكتاب إلى روح أخيها الأكبر "الذي آمن بالثورة، وشارك بها منذ بدايتها ... وإلى روح كلّ شهداء ٢٥ يناير الأبرار الذين ضحُّوا من أجل أن تتحقّق الحُرّيّة والعدالة والكرامة الإنسانية.
يتعدَّدُ المكان انطلاقاً من مصر، من القاهرة، من ميدان التحرير، من الطريق التي أصبحت طرقاً تصنعها الأحلام، كما الخيبات، والأمل في نجاح ثورةٍ كانت منعرجاً حاسماً في تاريخ مصر الحديثة، ولنمضي في تتبّع تلك التواريخ والأحداث التي تتّخذُ من تاريخ الخامس والعشرين يناير معلماً زمنياً لها، ولتكون البداية بـ"حكايات ما قبل ٢٥ يناير"، قبل أن نقرأ عن "ثورة ٢٥ يناير ورحيل مبارك"، وما تلاها من وقائع ومنعطفات وانحرافات عن مسار الثورة كما تصفها الكاتبة بصعود المدّ الديني للإخوان، وصولاً إلى الحديث عن حركة "احتلّوا وول ستريت" التي استلهمت روح الثورة المصرية، عن ديسمبر الحزين، عن الأيام الجليلة والمرعبة التي لا تُنسى، عن السفر والعودة إلى مصر. أو كما ختمت نجاة علي كتابها: "سأعود إلى بلدي عساي أجد مكانا بين الرفاق. فإمّا طريقٌ إلى الخلاص من سارقي الثورة، وإمّا طريقٌ يذهب بي إلى الموت!!".
"الطريق إلى التحرير - من يوميات ثورة ٢٥ يناير"، يومياتٌ تمتزجُ فيها السيرة الذّاتيّة للكاتبة نجاة علي بمحاولة التوثيق لتلك الفترة الاستثنائية في تاريخ مصر.
