تتكشف خلال السنوات القليلة الماضية مصادر متعددة لإعادة قراءة تاريخ فلسطين بطريقة مغايرة، وفي هذا الإطار تأتي مصادر التراث الثقافي بمفاجآت غير متوقعة، لم تكن نتوقع حين تطرقنا إلى قصور قرى الكراسي في فلسطين بأنها ستفتح باباً جديداً لدراسة هذا التاريخ، وأنها ستتحول إلى نقاط جذب للزيارة، كما أثارت تلك الدراسة الإهتمام الواسع الذي أدى إلى حماية غالبيتها.
تتناول هذه الدراسة الرسومات الداخلية في بيوت أثرياء فلسطين في أواخر الفترة العثمانية، وذلك ضمن سياقها السياسي والإجتماعي والإقتصادي، وتشكل هذه الرسومات جزءاً لا يتجزأ من الموروث الثقافي في فلسطين.
يحاول هذا الكتاب التعمق في رسومات البيوت السكنية الخاصة، وإستكشاف العوامل التي أثرت في ظهورها بشكل واسع لدى عائلات النخبة الميسورة في تلك الفترة، وتحتل محاولة الربط بين هذا النوع من الزخرفة المعمارية وبين البناء نفسه من جهة، والربط بينها وبين الحياة العامة للعائلات التي وجدت الرسوم داخل بيوتها من جهة ثانية حيزاً مهماً من هذا الكتاب.
ويذكر أن هناك الكثير من المصادر المهمة التي تبحث في العمارة الفلسطينية المدنية والقروية، وبخاصة خلال الفترة العثمانية، ومنها على سبيل الذكر مؤلفات توفيق كنعان، وسعاد العامري، ورون فوكس، وديفيد كرويانكر، ونظمي الجعبة، وربى كنعان، وآخرون، تناولوا فيها جوانب مختلفة لتطور العمارة وميزاتها، لكن دون الخوض في ظاهرة الرسومات التي انتشرت في أواخر الفترة العثمانية، وأصبحت من المميزات البارزة لمباني الأغنياء السكنية.
