في تقاليدها، في أزيائها، في أفراحها، في رقصاتها، في موسيقاها وأغانيها، تختزن الشعوب موروثها الثقافي، وتودع كنوزها الروحية، وتدّخر وعيها وإنفعالاتها، وتحفظ سر إرتباطها بالأرض وإنتمائها لجذورها.
ومن هذا المخزون تستمد الشعوب القدرة على البقاء، والحافز على الإستمرار، وأسباب التمسك بالأرض والحق والهوية.
أسوة بشعوب الأرض كافة، طوّر الشعب الفلسطيني هويته على إمتداد آلاف السنين، من جيل إلى جيل، واختزن في ذاكرته الجمعية ثقافة مدهشة حافلة بالألوان، تسجيل بدقة البيان، ملاحم إنسانة فيها من البساطة قدر ما فيها من الغنى والتعقيد.
شعب قاوم الجوع بالتحايل على ما تنبته الأرض صدفة، فابتكر أصنافاً من الظعام لا يعرفها شعب سواه، وقاوم الظلم بإستلهام الأساطير وبطولات الأولين، ليحولها إلى قصص شعبية تملأ فضاء السهرات، وقاوم قسوة الحياة بأغانٍ وأهازيج ومواويل، فيها فرح، وفيها عزاء، وفيها الصبر وإحتمال الصعب، وإغماض العين، لتفتح على أملٍ قريب.
شعب غنّى لكل فعل ولكل وجه من أوجه حياته، غنى للأرض فيما كان يزرع ويحرث ويحصد، غنى للمطر المرتجى، غنى للزيت زاده ووقوده، وغنى للزيتونة المباركة ولكسرة الخبز الشحيحة، غنى لأمجاده وأسلافه، لكرمهم ولشجاعتهم ولنبل أصلهم، غنى للمرأة فمجد حسنها وكمالها ومهاراتها وشراكتها لزوجها، غنى مراراته وعذاباته، وغنى أفراحه فكانت أغانيه صورة صوتية ملحنة لأحاسيسه، وبصمة محفورة في الذاكرة لإنفعالاته، وصارت، مع تقدم الزمن، جزءاً أصيلاً من الهوية الضاربة في عمق الأرض وعمق التاريخ.

حيث إن الأغاني الشعبية الفلسطينية المنشورة في هذا الكتاب قام بجمعها وتوثيقها مركز معلومات وإعلام المرأة الفلسطينية في قطاع غزة عام 2010 ضمن مشروع ثقافي يهدف إلى تعزيز الهوية الوطنية الفلسطينية والحفاظ على التراث الفلسطيني، وهذه الأغاني هي نتاج مئات المقابلات الشخصية مع نساء ورجال في مختلف مناطق القطاع، وخاصة كبار السن، ومراجعة سائر الإصدارات التي اهتمت بموضوع التراث الفلسطيني.
