ورغم أن تاريخ مفهوم الإغتراب يرجع في بداياته الأولى إلى اللاهوت، فإن إستخداماته تشعبت وتنوعت إلى حد أن هذا المفهوم بات يخدم في توصيف أشد الظاهرات تبايناً، في ميدان الإقتصاد وعلم الإجتماع، وعلم النفس، إلى جانب الفلسفة واللاهوت.
وإبتداءً من هوبز وروسو، ونيتشه وشيلر، يتواصل هذا المفهوم بمحتوى جديد في أعمال هيجل وفيورباخ وماركس، ويستمر في التواصل في أعمال فرويد وفروم وماركوز وسارتر.
يتعين على الفكر العربي معالجة ظاهرة الإغتراب والتمزق والقلق التي فرضتها الظروف على واقعنا العربي - عبر التشخيص والعقل النقدي، حتى يستطيع الخروج من المأزق الوجودي الذي يعيشه.
