الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا "اكتشاف العناصر الكيميائية" يحتوي أربعة عشر فصلا منها عشرة فصول عن دور العرب والمسلمين في اكتشاف عناصر: نحاس - رصاص - خارصين - قصدير - كربون - نيتروجين - أكسجين - كبريت - زرنيخ - وأنتيمون. يحتوي الكتاب كذلك فصلين عن اثنين من المواد الكيميائية هما: النشادر - وكلوريد الصوديوم أو ملح الطعام. كما يحتوي الكتاب أيضا على فصلين أخيرين يخصان تجزئة مشتقات البترول وتقطير البترول من صخوره بالقرعة والأنبيق، أي يخصان مركبات الهيدروكربون.
