العرب والجيولوجيا، بحث طريف في تاريخ العلوم بصفة عامة، وتاريخ علم الأرض (الجيولوجيا) عند العرب على وجه الخصوص. وإذا شئنا الدقة فهو لا يعدو مقدمة لدراسة تراث العرب الجيولوجي. وعن طريق الحشد الهائل لأسماء المؤلفين ومراجعهم، فإن هذا البحث يمثل إمكانيات بحوث مستقبلة ومستمرة في هذا الميدان في محاولة لاستكشاف معالم الصورة التي كانت في أذهان علماء العرب عن الأرض، أو بعبارة أخرى معرفة نظريتهم في الأرض. وبناء على هذه الدراسة فإن كتاب هتون "نظرية الأرض" الذي وضعه في أواخر القرن الثامن عشر الميلادي-ويقال إنه وضع فيه أسس الجيولوجيا العلمية-ما هو إلا امتداد طبيعي لتراث العرب الجيولوجي. وفصول هذا الكتاب من "موسوعة الحضارة العربية الإسلامية" ستتكلم عن تراث العرب الجيولوجي في فروع الجيولوجيا المختلفة، كما وستتكلم عن ملامح الجيولوجيا عن العرب.
