هنري كوربان (1903 - 1978) فيلسوف ومستشرق فرنسي صبّ اهتمامه على دراسة الإسلام وبشكل خاصّ على الغنوصية الشيعية فترجم أمهات الكتب في هذا المجال من السهروردي إلى صدر الدين الشيرازي مرورًا بابن عربي وحقّقها وعلّق عليها.
الاقتراب من الإسلام
أصبح لكوربان بعد سنوات من البحث والدراسة في الدين الإسلامي ميل للإسلام، وبالخصوص الأئمة الأطهار. وبعد دراسة الدين الإسلامي اطَّلع على حكمة الإشراق لـالسهروردي، وأخذ يهتم بعلوم الحكمة والعرفان المنتشرة في إيران. وشيئاً فشيئاً أصبح بعيداً عن الأفكار الغربية، وعن أستاذه في أوروبا لوي ماسينيون. فاعتنق الدين الإسلامي سنة 1945م، ثم سافر إلى إيران لإشباع رغبته من الحكمة والإشراق.
عمله بفرنسا
أسس في فرنسا قسم تاريخ إيران، وأُمَمها القديمة، وكان يهدف من وراء ذلك نقل التراث العرفاني الإيراني إلى المهتمِّين به في أوروبا والغرب.

الهدف الأساسي لهذا العمل الذي بين أيدينا، ليس نقل النص الكامل لكتاب "مدرسة الشيخ الأحسائي" بجميع محتوياتها، بل هو إعطاء نظرة مقتضبة ومستخلصة، ومعدّة بشكل جديد مما كتبه الفيلسوف عن المرتكزات الجوهرية في المدرسة، وعما استعرضه من سيرة من لا يختلف على صدارتهما كل من ينتمي إلى هذه المدرسة، وحتى يتكامل عمل المحقق ويتميز، عمد إلى: أولاً: إعداد النص المقتطف من جديد، بتحديث وإضافة بعض علامات الترقيم، وتقطيع ما غُفل عن تقطيعه من فقرات، وإخراجه بشكل أكثر تنسيقاً. ثانياً: عنونة المقاطع المنتقاة بعناوين رئيسية وجانبية مناسبة، للتسهيل على القارئ، ولتعايش الكتابات الحديثة. ثالثاً: التعليق على بعض الأمور المجملة، ونقل مقطوعات موضّحة ومكملة لبعض الأحداث المهمة، مع إرجاعها إلى مصادرها المعتمدة والموثوقة. رابعاً: جمع بعض المصادر التي استعان بها المؤلف، أو أحال القارئ إليها وكذلك المصادر التي اعتمد عليها في التحقيق وإدراجها في نهاية الكتاب.
