ونظراً إلى مركزيّة اللسانيّات وأهمّيّتها البالغة هذه، فقد حرصت الجامعات العربيّة على إدخالها ضمن مقرّرات الشهادة الجامعيّة الأولى لتخصّص اللغة العربيّة.
وعلى الرغم من حداثة العهد بهذه المادّة في جامعاتنا، فإنّها سرعان ما شدّت إليها إنتباه الطلبة، واستحوذت على إهتمامهم وعنايتهم، ممّا جعلهم يولونها جلّ إهتمامهم، لجدّتها أوّلاً، ولمنزعها العلميّ الآسر، الذي يستهوي عقولهم، ويستجيب لطموحاتهم العلميّة ثانياً.
وهكذا الكتاب موجّه بالدرجة الأولى إلى أولئك الذين ليس لهم معرفة سابقة بالموضوع، وقد سميّته: "محاضرات في اللسانيّات"؛ لأنّ نواته ولحمته محاضرات كنت ألقيت على طلبة قسم اللغة العربيّة في مادّة اللسانيّات، وقد رأيت أن أؤّلّف بينها، وأنقّحها، وأزيد فيها، وأخرجها على شكل كتاب، لتيسير الحصول عليها، وليعمّ النفع بها.
