يتناول الكتاب إشكالية الفهم والتفاعل الجمالي بإعتبار المعرفة في الأدب لا تقتصر على الفكرة فقط، ولكن أيضاً جماليات عرض الفكرة، هذه الفنية التي تساهم في تشكّلات الإدراك والتصوّر، وتصنع التقبّل لدى ذواتنا المركّبة والمعقّدة المنقسمة أشطان بين العقل والروح والعاطفة ومتطلّبات الجسد، على أن العقل عقول، منها النفعي الذرائعي، والجمالي التأمّلي، والجانح المؤدلج، وكلها تصنع لذاتها أساليب قراءة لا تلتقي إلا في زعم البحث عن الحقيقة وتثبيتها، فتشكّلت هذه الرحلة بين ثنايا النفس الإنسانية، تغذيها كل منجزات علم النفس المعرفي، ولكننا في ذات الوقت نجتهد لنتنفس خارجه.
اختَّلِف في تقييم القراءة والمعرفة والحقيقة، وفي كيفية تصوَّرها جميعاً، وإذا كانت الأولى آلية التعرف على الثانية لتحقيق الثالثة فإن البحث لا زال متواصلاً: هل يتم ذلك كله عبر منهج أو يمكن أن توجد ثلاثتها خارجه، لهذا يتأتى لنا في هذا الكتاب أن نتساءل عن ماهية المنهج متجاوزين التعاريف التقليدية له إلى الإستغراق في أهمّيته، ومدى قدرته على نقلنا من حال الشكّ إلى حال اليقين، وفي مدى صدقية المعرفة التي لا تتم - زعماً - إلا به.
كل ذلك في ظل ارتفاع أصوات حول الأعمدة غير المتماسكة لهذا المعبد المنهجي الشامخ، الذي تتعبّد - بحثاً - في جنباته، والذي لا نستطيع عنه حولا، فكيف يمكن أن نقرأ ونمارس المعرفة دون التعصّب لأرجاء المعالم أو العوالم التي خرجت عنه؟!...
هذا الكتاب يقف موقفاً نقدياً تساؤلياً من نظرية التلقي، ومقاربة التأويل، والتفسير الظاهراتي للنصوص، ويفتح أبواب الشك أيضاً في مدى فاعلية المقولات التفكيكية في سبر المتون الفنّية، وفي الأدب خصوصاً بإعتباره فناً لغوياً.
هذا الرصد للفنية الجمالية يكون بمنطق مقارن بين الأدب والفنون غير اللغوية الأخرى.
