يمثل الشاعر الناقد ملمحاً مهماً من ملامح العملية النقدية بصورتها الإجرائية، إذ أنيطت به منذ ظهور النقد بوصفها ممارسة أدبية فعّالة لتقويم الشعر ونقده، وعلى الرغم من بدائية تلك الآراء وتغلب الجانب الانطباعي عليها في بداية ظهورها، فإنها كانت تمثل بدايات مهمة في العملية النقدية على صعيد مقاربة آراء الشعراء وانطباعاتهم وأفكارهم في نصوصهم ونصوص غيرهم. وتعدّ هذه الظاهرة من الظواهر البارزة التي بدأت تلفت انتباه الدرس النقدي الجديد، بوصفها ظاهرة تقدم مجموعة كبيرة من الأسئلة المهمة عن مدى أهمية رأي الشاعر النقدي، وهل كان بالإمكان أن يجمع الأديب بين صفتي الشاعر والناقد معاً، بكل ما تنطوي عليه هذه الثنائية من إشكاليات وقضايا تندرج الآن في صلب نظرية الأدب ونظرية النقد، وقد خضعتا في عصر الحداثة وما بعدها للتطور الثقافي في الرؤية والمنهج والإجراء. لذا فإن توجّه الدرس الأكاديمي الحديث لرصد هذه الظاهرة ودراستها وتقويم منجزها يعدّ من منجزات هذه الدرس، إذ إنها أصبحت اليوم ظاهرة لافتة حين توجّه أغلب الشعراء إلى ممارسة العملية النقدية على نطاق يقتضي الاهتمام والرصد والمعاينة الأكاديمية، فضلاً عن تنوّع هذه الممارسة في حقول النقد الجديدة بكل ما تنطوي عليه من سعة وتنوّع وعمق.
