إن الحضارة السورية بشكل عام تركت بصمتها المباركة في الحضارات البشرية عامة، فإن جاز لنا التعبير نستطيع أن نقول: إن الزمن يبدأ من سورية، لأن السوريون الأوائل هم الذين قسموا لنا الزمن بنظامه الستيني من العهد السومري والذي لا زلنا نعمل به حتى اليوم. وأهدوا البشرية بواكير القوانين العدلية المنظمة للحياة الإجتماعية ( أور تامو ولبت عشتار ) وشريعة حمورابي التي كانت أساس الناموس العبري ولا سيما وصايا الله العشرة، كما أن السوريون هم أول من تأمل في قضية العدل الآلهي. ( أيوب السومري وأيوب البابلي ). والسوريون أول من أبدع في كتابة الملاحم البطولية ( ملحمة كلكامش الخالدة التي سبقت ملحمتي هوميروس بأكثر من ألفي سنة ). وهم أول من أسس نظاماً شاملاً للدين شكل أساس الديانات السماوية. وعلموا البشر العطلة الأسبوعية ( السبت- الذي لا زال يحمل لفظه السوري القديم- ( في أغلب لغات العالم – Sabbsth – Sabbat )، وتركوا أول كتاب مقدس ( سفر التكوين البابلي ) الذي حمله يهود السبي إلى سماويات اليوم. أما فيما يخص الأدب الشعبي والحكم والأمثال نقول إنه حتى القرن التاسع عشر كان مفهوم سائد في العالم مفاده أن حضارة الإغريق هي منهل الحضارة الإنسانية وأن حكم وأمثال الكتاب المقدس هي أول حكم وأمثال مدلولة ولكن بعد أن أظهرت الحفريات عن الآثار القديمة لوادي الرافدين تبين أن حضارة وادي الرافدين هي أقدم حضارات العام وهي تسبق كل من التوراة وحضارة النيل والهند واليونان والصين والمكسيك، وهذا إتضح منذ أكثر من قرن ونيف بعد إكتشاف آثار سومر وأكاد وبابل وآشور وغيرها من الممالك التي كانت سائدة في أرض الرافدين .
