عبد العبريون كل مظاهر الطبيعة التي عبدتها الشعوب البدائية, من إنسان وحيوان ونبات وجماد ولازالت عند الوثنيات تشكل حيزا واسعا من متن نصوص التوراة المقدسة حتى اليوم.
في هذا الكتاب نقرأ لمحة موجزة عن كل العبادات الوثنية التي مارسها العبريون ومن ثم نتوقف بعض الشيء عند ظاهرتين من هذه العبادات الوثنية:
1- عبادة النور كإله, لما كان للنور من مكانة مميزة في عبادات الشرق القديم ومكانة هذا النور في المقدسات العبرية.
2- عبادة العبريين لإله المجسم بشكل بشري, لما لهذه الظاهرة من أثر حتى اليوم.
كل هذه الأمور سنأتي عليها في الجزء الأول من هذا الكتاب, أما الجزء الثاني فتناولنا فيه دون إسهاب العواطف الإنسانية التي اتسم بها الرب كأي إنسان منها المستحب ومنها المكروهة من حزن وفرح, حب وكره, تسامح وحقد دفين, حلم ولجاجة, ضحك وبكاء, رشد وسكر, إصرار وندم وغير ذلك مما للرب من عواطف وأحاسيس تتطابق والطبيعة البشرية.
ثم نأتي بشيء من التفصيل على دراسة أخلاق رب الجنود وإله الحرب و ما يصدره من أوامر القتل والإبادة والشر بكل ألوانه وما هي نظرة هذا الإله للحرب والسلم.
وبالإجمال الموجز, المفيد أن, العبريين عاشوا حياة إجتماعية متقهقرة نتيجة لظروف معاشية سيئة, خلقت فيهم ثقافة الشر, وتعزية لمعاناتهم ألبسوا هذه الصفات الشريرة لهذا الإله الذي أحبهم واختارهم وفضلهم على العالمين فكنوا خير أمة أخرجت للعالمين.
