هذا الكتاب (القتل بالشعر: دراسة في سيميوطيقا الثقافة الدامغة لجرير بوصفها علامة) يمثل حلقة من سلسلة حلقات بحثية اهتمت بها المؤلفة للكشف عن العلاقة القوية بين الجمال والعنف في البنى التصورية للشعر والشعراء في الثقافة العربية.
وتستفيد هذه الدراسة من مكتسبات سيميوطيقا الثقافة ومن نظرية الأنساق، وتهدف إلى الكشف عن النسق القار من وراء قصيدة (الدامغة)، وتبيان كيف أمسى الشفهي (القصيدة) وسماً وعلامة، وكيف صارت (الدامغة) معطىً علاماتياً سيميولوجياً محفوراً في الذاكرة.
كما تسعى الدراسة للكشف عن البنية التصورية المولدة للنص تصورياً ودلالياً، من خلال الكشف عن التعالق الوظيفي للنص مع المرجع: السياق القبلي والإجتماعي وكذلك مع السياق الفني الأدبي، وخاصة سياق غرض الهجاء.
