الفلسفة المشائية منهج عقلي قائم على العقل، وسميت كذلك لأنها نسجت منظومتها الفلسفية الفكرية على المنهج العقلي الذي اتبعه أرسطو، ومشى على منواله أتباعه من المشائين اليونانيين، أو لكونهما فلسفة تبدأ من المقدمات إلى النتيجة إلى الإستدلال.
في هذا الكتاب يمارس الشيخ علي بو سليمان الجبيلي التفلسف بصورة حرة، مفتوحة على فلسفات وتجارب أعلام هذه المدرسة (المشائية) محاولاً التحرر من بعض العوائق التي تعرقل الفهم الصحيح لهذه الفلسفة من حيث الشكل والمضمون، بغية تقديم فلسفة جديدة برؤى؛ ومناهج جديدة مغايرة...
وفي هذا الإطار يشير المؤلف إلى ما ورد في كتاب "الإشارات والتنبيهات" لابن سينا وغيره من الكتب الفلسفية ويقارنها بالكتب اليونانية، ويجعلها منطلقاً لبحثه مع المقارنة مع فلسفات أخرى، وليصل إلى حقيقة مفادها: "أن الفكرة الأساسية التي تحكم الفلسفة المشائية الإسلامية تنطلق من فكرة قرآنية وهي: أن الله تعالى أمر في القرآن الكريم بالتفكر في الوجود، والمخلوقات، وكيفية خلقها، وخلق الوجود، أي التفكير في خصائص وأعراض هذا الوجود، والأحوال الخاصة به، والأحكام العامة اللاحقة له، وألوان الوجود وأنحائه، من دون التفكير في حقائق الأشياء؛ لأن معرفة حقائق الأشياء غير متيسرة إلا الله سبحانه وتعالى".
وفقاً لهذا المنظور يستعرض المؤلف ما جاء في نظريات أعلام المدرسة المشائية الإسلامية كالكندي والفارابي وابن سينا، ويناقش نظرية الفيض والوجود والعالم والنفس والتصوف والمعاد وغيرها... ويختتم بنقد وتحليل ورأي.
