هذا الكتابُ عملٌ موسوعيٌّ نفيسٌ، يقدِّم أرضيّةً علميّةً رصينةً تتناولُ شاعرَ الصّوفيّة الأكبر مولانا جلال الدّين الرّوميّ (604 ـ 672ه) فضاءً جغرافيًّا وتكوّنًا معرفيًّا على آباءٍ روحيّين كبار، وإنتاجًا أدبيًّا وعِرْفانيًّا قُيّض له أن يُنزَلَ مُنزَلًا عَليًّا في ذواكر أشخاصٍ على امتداد البسيطة، وطريقةً صوفيّةً تهيّأ لها أنصارٌ ومريدون في أصقاع مختلفة من المعمورة، وتأثيرًا قويًّا تخلّل بيئاتٍ ثقافيّةً شرقيّةً وغربيّةً، قديمًا وحديثًا. وفي الجملة، يقدِّم كتابُ «الرّوميّ: ماضيًا وحاضرًا، شرقًا وغربًا» مادّةً معرفيّةً عن الشّاعر الكبير مولانا جلال الدّين الرّوميّ مبنيّةً على التحقيق والكشْف وتقليب النّظر في المصادر وفي الأنظار والأخبار لتخليص الحقيقيّ من الأسطوريّ، والرّاسخ من المتأرجح، من المعلومات والمعارف المتّصلة بهذا المبدِع الكبير وأشياخه وتلاميذه.
وفي مستطاعي أن أقول إنّ ترجمتي العربيّة لهذا الأثَر النّفيس بعثت في نفسي قدرًا من الاطمئنان إلى أنّ هذا الشّيخَ العظيم، كما سمّاه شاعرُ الإسلام في العصر الحديث محمّد إقبال، وميراثَه الأدبيّ والعِرْفانيّ المذهِلَ، سيكونانِ في متناول طلَبة العِلْم والمبدِعين من أبناء العرب؛ وهم ـ فيما أرى ـ في حاجة إلى النّهل من هذا المعين الثّرّ والإفادة من «ماء الحياة» الذي يغدقه في كؤوس لا آنقَ ولا أجملَ. ذلك لأنّنا في حاجةٍ ماسّة إلى مُنتَجٍ أدبيّ وفكريّ يرتقى بسلوكنا وفِكِرنا وتصوّراتنا؛ لكي نحيا أحرارًا أقوياءَ في أوطانٍ حُرّةٍ قويّة، ويكون لنا وجودٌ محترمٌ بين أمم الأرض. / عيسى علي العاكوب
