إنه لمن العسير في هذا البحث البسيط أن نكتب عن أحد أساطين التصوّف الفلسفي الإسلامي في بلاد فارس الذين دخلوا التاريخ من أوسع أبوابه ، بما خلدوه من الصفحـات المشرقة في ميدان التصوّف الفلسفي الإسلامي .
فالكتابة عن جلال الدّين الرّوميّ عمل شاق يتطلب سعة الاطلاع ، وعمق الصبر في البحث والتنقيب في مختلف المصادر والمراجع ، التي هي في واقع الأمر قد ظلمته ظلما كبيراً، حيث إنها لم تشر إليه إلا من زاوية صغيرة ، أو بإشارات غامضة ومبهمة لا تستطيع أن تعطيك صورة كاملة وواضحة عن حياة جلال الدّين وفكره، والظروف التاريخية والسياسية والثقافيـة المعاصرة له، علاوة على ذلك، فمؤلفـاته المنشورة والمنظومة لم تحظ بترجمـات عربية جيدة سوى مثنويه الذي قام بترجمة بعض أجزائه كل من الدكتـور عبد السلام كفافي، والدكتـور عبد الوهاب عزام وغيرهما. هذا ونرى في المقابل في ظهور عدة ترجمات باللغات الأجنبية ، منها ما استمر ترجمته إلى أكثر من نصف قرن.
