لا أريد أن أكتب تاريخًا ولا أريد أن أواثق توثيقًا لزمن مضى كل ما أردته هو القيام بتحقيق صحفي عن عالم المخطوطات والوثائق والخطابات في بيوت الصعيد وخاصة بعد التدمير المعتمدة لتلك الخطابات بتعمد واضح كان التحقيق الصحفي الذي حولته إلى كتاب يحمل لي الكثير من بلورة وجدانية تتكون في داخلي فليست الصدفة هي التي قادتني للعثور على هذه الخطابات والوثائق وإنما كانت الهواجس والأسئلة والبحث عن إجابة عن مصير بشر يتواجدون في الخطابات. وبعد جمع هذه الخطابات والوثائق لا أرتجي أن يكون كتابي هذا مفاجأة أو يحمل إعجابًا من القارئ فهي أول تجربة ربما خطأت فيها كثيرًا لذا أرجو أن يسامحني القارئ كثيرًا ربما أكون أنا كلمة في خطاب ضلت طريقها.
