يتماشى موضوع الكتاب مع التطورات التي مسّت العديد من الدول العربية في السنوات الماضية ، إذ ظهرت بوادر التغيير والمطالبة بالتحول إلى الديمقراطية ، والحالة نفسها تنطبق على مصر التي اندلعت فيها تلك الشرارة منذ 25 جانفي 2011 ، إذ خرجت فئات عديدة للمطالبة لتحسين ظروف المعيشة والأوضاع الإقتصادية ، لتتم إزاحة الرئيس السابق حسني مبارك عن السلطة كأول مرحلة الديمقراطية التي تحددت أكثر مع وصول الإخوان المسلمين إلى الحكم لكن الأمر لم يتجاوز السنة الواحدة ، حيث شهدت الساحة المصرية والعربية عدة تأويلات حول مستقبل علاقات مصر الخارجية خاصة فيما يتعلق باتفاقية السلام مع إسرائيل ، وبدأ الحديث الإعلامي عن تغير السياسة الخارجية المصرية والرضوخ لمطالب الشعب بقطع العلاقات والتطبيع مع العدو الإسرائيلي وإعادة النظر في القضية الفلسطينية ، لكن الأمر لم يطل ، إذ وقع الإنقلاب على حكم الإسلاميين وعادت السلطة للمؤسسة العسكرية ، ما يعتبر استمرارية للنظام الذي انبثق عن الإنقلاب العسكري في 23 جويلية 1952 ، أي أن الحديث عن قطع العلاقات الإقتصادية ، السياسية ، والأمنية مع إسرائيل خاصة في إطار حالة عدم الإستقرار التي تشهدها سيناء فتح المجال للتغلغل في القرارات المصرية أكثر ، ليبقى الحديث عن ترسيخ الديمقراطية بعيد المدى ، فالحقائق الحالية ترسم استمرارية لما كان ، هذا إن لم تتفاقم الأوضاع للأسوأ .
