يتناول الكتاب دراسة موضوع الحبس الإحتياطى بادئاً بشرح بعض الإجراءات السابقة له مثل الأمر بالحضور و أمر القبض والإحضار ومشتملاته ومدة القبض وبعض إلحالات مثل حالة القبض على المتهم خارج دائرة المحقق وتعليمات النيابة العامة بخصوص هذا الشأن. بعدها يقوم المؤلف يتناول بعض العموميات حول الحبس الاحتياطى وماهيته ثم يقدم لنا نبذة تاريخية عنه فى مصر الفرعونية والعصر الرومانى وأخيراً فى الشريعة الإسلامية ثم فى عودة إلى القانون الحضار يقوم بتعرض الحبس الإحتياطى ومبرراته والتكييف القانونى له. نجد ايضا ذكر للجرائم التى يجوز فيها وشروطة الشكلية وسلطته والإفراج المؤقت وكل ما يتعلق بهذا الشأن وفقاً لأحدث التعديلات القانونية.
