فكل منهما عبر عن روح عصره بمهارة سواء في الشعر أم في النثر، بل كان الداعي إلى نشر هذا الديوان الصغير الاحتفاء بذكرى هذين المفكرين الألمانيين الكبيرين لا سيما بعد إقامة احتفالات عام 1998 واحتفالات عام 1999 بمناسبة الذكرى السنوية لفونتانه(1819-1898) وبمناسبة الذكرى المئتين والخمسين لميلاد غوته.
