ويوضح الكتاب أن روسيا التي تسعى للعب دور متزايد في الشرق الأوسط وتجاه القضية الفلسطينية، لم تعتبر حماس حركة "إرهابية"، وتعاملت معها بانفتاح، وقدّرت لها حجمها الشعبي وشرعيتها الانتخابية؛ كما قام عدد من الزعماء الروس بالالتقاء بقادة حماس.
ويشير الكتاب إلى أنه في الوقت الذي كانت فيه روسيا تطالب بفك الحصار عن قطاع غزة، فإنها كانت تسعى لدفع حماس باتجاه المشاركة في مشروع التسوية وحلّ الدولتين.
