"مطوَّع نفي" هو سعيدان بن مساعد بن حمدان بن زايد بن بنيه (1251هـ / 1835م - 1356هـ / 1935م)، وأسرته تسمى آل مساعد نسبة لجدهم القريب، وهو عالمِ دين، تولي تعليم الصبيان القرآن الكريم في الكتاتيب، ومارس كتابة (الزواج)، وكتابة الوثائق والمبايعات، ومعالجة المرضى بالرقية الشرعية، وبعض أنواع الطب العربي، لُقّبَ بمطوع نفي واشتهر به بين البادية والحاضرة، بالإضافة إلى كونه شاعراً.
في هذا الكتاب يحيط الكاتب مسعود بن فهم المسردي بحياة ومكانة مطوّع نفي الشعرية وأهم الدراسات التي تناولته، وبعض طرائفه وقصصه، والمدون من قصائده وشوارده الشعرية، ويختتم بملحق صور خاصة بالشاعر وبعضاً من الوثائق التاريخية والأدبية التي لها علاقة بالشاعر وأسرته وأعماله.
وعودٌ على بدء، يُعتبر الشاعر مطوَّع نفي... شاعر مقطوعات وأبيات ومعارضات، ولا يؤثر له قصيدة طويلة، ولم يتوسع في أغراض الشعر؛ وإنما حصر شعره في الإخوانيات والمداعبات والغزل، والتعبير عن الحنين إلى حياة البدو، ورسم صور ومشاهد من طبيعة الصحراء الجميلة، وهو مصنف من شعراء المدرسة الوجدانية التي تبلورت وتحددت معالمها الفنية على يد الشاعر المبدع عبد الله بن سبيل، وأجمل ما في شعره خفة روحه ومزحه وغزله العف الثمين، له مشاركات شعرية وردود بينه وبين الشاعر عبد الله ابن سبيل الذي يتنازع معه الزعامة الشعرية وصرف قلوب الناس.
