بعد إميل حبيبي ثاني الروائيين الفلسطينيين - بعد غسان كنفاني - من الذين استطاعوا اختراق جدار الصمت - من قلب فلسطين لا من خارجها، ليكتب الرواية الواقعية الجديدة، برصيد ثقافي كلاسيكي، وعبارة عن قراءات لطه حسين، ومارون عبود، ورئيف خوري، وعمر فاخوري، ومصطفى صادق الرافعي، ووديع حداد - من جبل النهضويين، وللفيروزبادي، وابن عبد ربه - وللجاحظ - من التراثيين؛ ولتولستوي، وتورجنيف، ودوستويفسكي، ومايا كوفسكي، وكارل ماركس، ومارك تويين - من الأدباء الأجانب. ويظهر أن الرواية، عند إميل حبيبي، لا تكتب بالرواية، بل تكتب بأدوات خارجها. إن جيل الروائي هو جيل أبي سلمى، وابراهيم طوقان، وعبد الرحيم محمود، وإحسان عباس. وقد نشر الكاتب - قبل بروزه الانتداب البريطاني والاحتلال الاسرائيلي - في (الاتحاد)، و(الغد)، و(المهماز)، و(الطريق). إنه كاتب جاء الى الأدب عن طريق السياسة، بعد أن قاوم في ذاته حب الأدب لمدة طويلة، ليرضخ الى مصيره في الكلمة، على خلاف إميل توما، وفؤاد نصار، وتوفيق طوبي.
لا نريد هنا كتابة سيرة ذاتية للروائي إميل حبيبي، بل نهتم أكثر ببحث سيرة الروائية في أعماله، من خلال هذه الكتابة المتميزة، والتقنية الفريدة، في تحويل اللحظة التاريخية الى سيرة لقارئه المتوهم. لن نحذور في دراستنا هذه، حذو الدارسين السابقين، من أمثال هشام ياغي، والياس خوري، وأفنان القاسم وتوفيق بكار - على سبيل المثال لا الحصر - كما أننا لم نعتمدهم لا من بعيد ولا من قريب. وعلى عكس ذلك كله، - وهذا من الصدف الغريبة - فقد اعتمدنا في تصورنا النظري والمنهجي، على كتابة نقدية يعيش كاتباها بفلسطين، إلا أن كتابهما صدر بفرنسا، تحت عنوان: خطابات المستنسخ (Les discours du cliche)، لروث أموسي (Ruth Amossy)، واليشيفا روزن (Elisheva Rosen)، سنة 1982. وإذ كنا قد اعتمدنا هذا الكتاب، فإن اعتمادنا عليه لم يكن كوصفة جاهزة لطبخة نقدية تنتظر إسقاط مفاهيم طلسمية عليها، بل اعتمدنا عليه كتصور يحيل على مكون أساسي من بين مكونات الخطاب الروائي على الإجمال.
وتجدر الاشارة.. أننا اعتمدنا في جل إحالاتنا على روايات إميل حبيبي على طبعات الهلال (بالنسبة للسداسية...) وعيون المعاصرة (بالنسبة للوقائع...) ومجلة الكرمل (بالنسبة لإخطية)، فالأرقام إذن تحيل على هذه الطبعات.
