في روايتها «لأنها مختلفة» تتخذ الكاتبة حبيبة الخراز من قضية التفرقة العنصرية بين اللون الأبيض واللون الأسود موضوعاً لها بدءاً من صفحة الغلاف الذي رُسمت عليه لوحة لفتاة سوداء بثياب مزركشة، تحمل ملامح الشعور بالحزن والحُلم والغربة وإلى جانبها صورة لبرج إيفل، لتبدو الصورة وكأنها مرآة عاكسة لأحداث الرواية حتى آخر صفحة منها.
تدور أحداث الرواية في دولة خليجية وتسلط الضوء على عائلة أرستقراطية تعيش حياة هانئة ومستقرة، تبدأ بالتحول عندما يقرر "خليفة" الولد الذكر الوحيد للعائلة فتح فرع للشركة الأم في وطنه في باريس، هرباً من زواج تقليدي تخطط له العائلة، ليكون له مع الحب موعداً، كان اللقاء في الطائرة، جاذبية تشده نحوها؛ هي "ميفا" الكامرونية المولد المغادرة على نفس الطائرة من قطر إلى باريس متجهة إلى بيت والديها في فرنسا، العائلة التي خافت على ابنتها من وضع اجتماعي خطير تعيشه البلاد وهربت بها من الكاميرون منذ كانت طفلة إلى باريس كوطن بديل ينالون فيه حياة كريمة.
تقول الكاتبة حبيبة الخراز في كلمة توجهها إلى القارئ: "ليست صدفة أن تقرأ كلماتي الآن فقد كتبتها من أجلك وقدر لك أن تمسك بكتابي بين فاعتبره بمثابة مرآتك للحقيقة.
