يتوجه هذا الكتاب إلى قضية رئيسية طالما لازمت التاريخ السياسي والتطور الفكري والتنظيمي للحركات الفكرية السياسية الحية، ألا وهي قضية الترابط بين وسائل وأساليب تلك الحركات ومدى اقترابها من أهدافها الرئيسية، وينطبق ما تقدم على التجربة البعثية التي شارفت على إتمام أكثر من أربعين عاماً من الزمان في السودان، وهي فترة طويلة تحثنا جميعاً على إعادة تقييم المرحلة السابقة وتفحص فصولها، بغرض الاعتبار منها أولاً، ومن أجل تعميق إيجابياتها وتخطي أسباب عثراتها ثانياً.
ومن هذا المنطلق فإن ما يلح على التمعن في مسيرة البعث، أكثر نم أي وقت مضى، هو الامتحان الذي تمر به بلادنا، وتتوقف على نتيجته وحدتها وبقاؤها، وفي مواجهة هذا المنعطف التاريخي، لاينفع التردد والخوف والاختباء وراء حواجز اللامبالاة، وتجاهل الحقائق العنيدة، لذا فإن الشواهد التي تسوقها هذه المدونة النقدية، تحمل عنواناً واحداً هو البدء بالاعتراف بوجود قضايا خلافية نبعت عنها الحالة التي نحن بصددها، والمصارحة بالعلل الحقيقية التي حالت دون وحدة حزب البعث وتحوله إلى حركة جماهيرية وقوة اجتماعية متنامية وجديرة بآمالها الوطنية وتطلعاتها القومية.
