وصف "أبو العلاء المعري" العقل بأنه الإمام الناطق فى الكتيبة الخرساء، وبحثاً عن هذا الإمام الغائب كتب هذا الكتاب الذى هو حصيلة معارك خاضها "خالد منتصر" دفاعاً عن العقل والتنوير والمنهج العلمي فى التفكير، وذلك في عموده الصحفي بجريدة المصري اليوم، كان الهجوم على المقالات من قوى التخلف شرساً وعدوانياً، ولكنه تحمل وواجه فمعركة الدفاع عن العقل لم تعد ترفاً بل صارت قضية حياة أو موت، فعندما يتحول التطرف من ضيف عابر إلى صاحب بيت، وعندما يتحول خفافيش الظلام من قتل المفكر إلى قتل التفكير، تصير الكتابة قبضاً على الجمر وسيراً فى حقل الألغام، ولكن قد آن الأوان لأن ننقذ العقل وندافع عن وجوده، ولا نهتم باتهامات البعض بأننا نصدمهم، فأحياناً تعالج الصدمات الكهربائية مرضى الفصام أو الشيزوفرينيا، وأحياناً يستخدم الديناميت لشق الطرق وسط الجبال، وهذا الكتاب يطرح علامات استفهام من الممكن أن تستفز البعض وتقلقهم، ولكنه "استفزاز" التغيير للأفضل، وقلق الخوف على المستقبل، فهل حقاً سينطق إمام العقل فى كتيبتنا الخرساء؟
