إن ما تميزت به المخطوطة الفريدة التي حُققت لأول مرة في يهذا العمل هو ليس باحتوائها على بدائع الأخبار والحكايات وغررها في العشق وحسب، بل واشتمالها على نوادر الأبيات التي لم أعثر عليها فيما وقع بين يدي من كتب ودواوين، إذ وصل عددها في تحقيقي للنصف الأول منها إلى 452 بيتاً تقريباً. ولعل هذا الكتاب يعد مصدراً يرفد خزانة الأدب العربي بإضافات جديدة لم ترد في غيره من المصادر وكتب الحب والعشق والمجاميع والمختارات الغزلية، من مثل كتاب (الزهرة) لإبن داود الأصبهاني المتوفي سنة 297ه، و (الموشّى أو الظرف والظرفاء) لأبي الطيب الوشّاء المتوفي سنة 325ه، و (المحب والمحبوب) للسّري الرفاء المتوفي سنة 362ه، و (مصارع العشاق) للسرّاج القارىء المتوفي سنة 500ه، وسواها من المجاميع والمختارات.
كما يعد هذا الكتاب (نفائس الأعلاق في مآثر العشاق) الأثر الوحيد الذي وصل إلينا من آثار إبن حمامة الشاعر المتوفي سنة 604ه.
وقد اتبعت المنهج الوصفي التحليلي في حديثي عن التعريف بالمؤلف من خلال مقابلة النصوص ببعضها وتمحيصها وتدقيقها، وفي حديثي عن بعض ما ورد في أبواب المخطوطة العشرين، وفي وصفي للمقطوعات الشعرية والقصائد للخروج ببعض الإستنتاجات والترجيحات والأحكام.
كما وصفتُ المخطوطة الفريدة وصفاً يتفق مع الأصول التي اتجه إليها المحققون، وبينتُ خطوات منهجي في التحقيق.
وختمتُ الكتاب بعمل فهارس لإعانة القارىء على الوصل إلى مبتغاه.
