يهدف هذا البحث الى ابراز صورة مشرقة من صور الحوار والتسامح الإسلامي - المسيحي، من خلال المجالس السبعة التي عقدها المطران مار إيليا مطران نصيبين، المتوفى سنة 438هـ/ 1046م مع الوزير أبي القاسم الحسين بن علي بن الحسين بن علي بن محمد المغربي، المتوفى سنة 418هـ/1027م، خلال وزارته للأمير نصر الدولة أحمد بن مروان الذي اتخذ من ميافارقين عاصمة للإمارة المروانية في ديار بكر، وعقدت المجالس السبعة هذه في مدينة نصيبين خلال ثلاث زيارات قام بها الوزير المغربي اليها خلال سنتي 417 - 418هـ/ 1026 - 1027م، تناولت أموراً عدة تتعلق بأمور الدين والعلوم والآداب، اطلعنا عليها من خلال مخطوطة المجالس لمار إيليا (نسخة مكتبة الدراسات العليا / كلية الآداب - جامعة بغداد، فضلاً عن البحوث العلمية الرصينة التي نشرها عنها الاب لويس شيخو في مجلة المشرق البيروتية خلال سنتي 1902 و1906م، كما نشر الأب لويش شيخو خمس حلقات سنة 1922م، تتعلق بمحتويات مجالس مار إيليا، وهي نشرة علمية محققة وموثقة، أكملت نواقص وأخطاء وإشكالات مخطوطة المجالس.
