لقد حاول كثير من الباحثين المحدَثين تقويم الأثر الذي تركته الأبحاث الفلسفية والكلامية في البلاغة العربية؛ فذهب أغلبهم إلى أن هذا الأثر كان سلبياً، وأن البلاغة العربية تحولت على يد البلاغيين المتأخرين المتفلسفين، إلى قواعد "جافة"، و"متحجرة"، و"جامدة"، كما اتفقوا على أن ما اجتلبته هذه البلاغة من المنطق والفلسفة وعلم الكلام وعلم أصول الفقه والنحو، أمور كلها لا تغني شيئاً في تربية الذوق وتصوير محاسن الكلام.
أما نحن، فلا نتفق مع هذه الآراء، ولا نرى أن هذا الأثر كان بهذه الصورة القاتمة التي يحاول هؤلاء تقديمها، وحسْبنا في هذا المقام الضيق، أن نشير إلى أن هؤلاء الباحثين غاب عنهم أن البلاغة العربية حققت تطوراً مهماً بفضل هذا التداخل الذي حصل بين علم البلاغة والفلسفة اليونانية والإسلامية؛ وأن البلاغيين الذين مثلوا المدرسة الكلامية، لم يكن همهم هو البحث في "الحسن القولي" بحثاً ذوقياً فنياً، وإنما كان هو البحث في البلاغة على "النهج الصناعي"؛ أي التأسيس لــ"علم كلي" يكون بمثابة "روح الصنعة"؛ لأنه لا يكتفي بتتبع جزئيات العلم وظواهره، وإنما يتجاوزه إلى البحث في "خفاياه ودقائقه"، فيكون علم البلاغة بمنزلة الأصول التي يحتكم إليها من أراد تتبع الحسن القولي في الكلام العربي شعره ونثره.
