مضى على تلك الرحلة قرابة مائتين وخمسين عاما، ولا تزال قصة هذه الرحلة مثار اهتمام العلماء والجغرافيين والباحثين، ذلك أنها سلطت الضوء على دراسة واقع العراق الجغرافي والإقتصادي والثقافي والإجتماعي والديني والآثاري. إذ قامت البعثة بعملية مسح عام للبقاع التي زارتها، فذكرت المدن الشاخصة والمندرسة، وتولت رسم العديد من الخرائط، وقام ينبور باستكشافات آثارية أخرى في بلدان الشرق الأدنى، ولا سيما في الجزيرة العربية، واهتم بالكتابات المسمارية واستنسخها بصورة دقيقة، فتهافت العلماء على دراستها ومحاولة فك رموزها، فكانت فتحا عظيما في علم التاريخ والآثار. أيضا أمدت البعثة العلماء بمعلومات جغرافية وتاريخية وبلدانية عن الأصقاع التي جالت فيها، ورسمت صورة صادقة ودقيقة لأحوالها وعاداتها وتقاليدها وأزيائها، فكانت من أجمل وأهم الرحلات التي تقف على أحوال الشرق.
